Who are we?
GOB is a non profit organisation established in 1973. The acronym arises from the original name “Grupo Ornitológico Balear” (Ornithological Group of The Balearics). At present, the official name is “Grup Balear d’Ornitología i Defensa de la Naturalesa” (Balearic Group for Ornithology and Nature Protection), the original abbreviation GOB is kept in place.
Our mission is the improvement and conservation of the environmental qualities of the Balearic Islands in order to achieve a state of ecological and social sustainability.
Our objectives are:
The conservation of the natural areas to include native and endangered species of flora and fauna.
The preservation of our landscape and its natural resources as the foundation for sustainable economic development of the Balearic Islands.
The environmental education for social awareness of the innate values of the Islands, including their fragility, with special emphasis on sustainable development models.
How do we work?
Our society is a mouthpiece for the preservation of the environmental values of the islands.
We undertake projects and initiatives for the conservation of biodiversity and natural areas.
We work alongside the public on education, information and environmental awareness.
We activate and organise the public in order to prevent the destruction of the Balearic landscape and for the promotion of sustainable development.
We enable public participation and we work for the citizens’ awareness, publicizing views and decision-making on environmental and landscape issues.
